North Bay Elite Basketball Club was founded in 2009 by sisters Monica and Heidi Mertle with the intention of providing elite high school girls basketball players with advanced instruction and exposure to high-level competition at NCAA Sanctioned Viewing Tournaments.  However, news of the club's founding spread quickly and within the first year NBE was home to six girls travel teams, with age groups ranging from 5th grade through juniors in high school.  Since then NBE has grown in both numbers and quality, expanding on its original mission by developing a program that is aimed towards developing skills and fostering knowledge in not just high school basketball players, but in elementary and middle school players as well.  In 2010 NBE introduced the first ever Future Stars League, which was aimed at providing 1st-3rd grade girls with an introduction to the fundamentals of the game and competitive game play.  NBE further separated itself in 2012 by being one of only a handful of AAU Clubs in the country to go beyond the game of basketball and integrate strength and conditioning, nutrition education and academic monitoring into its program.

As the club has grown NBE travel teams have proven themselves worthy of competing at the National Level, with its high school teams traveling to and placing in some of the country's top Showcases and its youth teams doing the same in a more local tournament circuit.  NBE has also worked to create more playing opportunities for not just its own players but for outside clubs as well by hosting a number of AAU Sanctioned Tournaments on the Pacific District Spring Tournament Series.   These tournaments have brought new life to Sonoma County Basketball, putting an area that was previously overlooked on the girls basketball map.

We are excited to have been a part of the creation and evolution of one of Northern California’s Premier Girls Basketball Clubs and look forward to continued growth and expansion in the coming years!
